THIS DAY IN HISTORY (TDIH)
AUG-10 <<<< AUG-11 >>>> AUG-12
LOCATION:
Greece, Egypt, and Saudia Arabia
WHAT HAPPENED:
While enroute from Athens, Greece to Jeddah (Jiddah), Saudia Arabia, a
learjet was tracked by several different radars and had an estimated four
hours of fuel left when it was last contacted by Cairo air controllers.
It never arrived and since no distress call had been heard, an extensive search along the plane's flight path was conducted. No wreckage was found.
In February of 1987, a team of archeologist found the plane 270 miles southwest of Cairo, Egypt (which by any estimation) is well over 400 miles west of its destination.
Inside the intact fuselage, some human bones were found crushed (almost to a powder). An interesting sideline to all of this was that one of the wings was found almost a mile from the main crash site.
