THIS DAY IN HISTORY (TDIH)
JUN-13 <<<< JUN-14 >>>> JUN-15
LOCATION:
West Roxbury, Boston, MA USA
WHAT HAPPENED:
John H. Sullivan, while welding a pipe, was buried alive when the dirt
around him caved in. The only thing showing was Sullivan's hand which was
sticking out of the ground in plain sight.
Thomas Whittaker, a friend of Sullivan's, was working at a different site when roughly at about the same time began feeling uneasy about something. He finally decided there was something wrong out at the Roxbury site and drove out there.
When he got there he noticed one of his company's trucks unattended with the generator running. He walked around and finally saw his friend's hand sticking out of the dirt. He dug his friend out.
There was a real possibility that if Whittaker hadn't gotten to his friend when he did, his friend might've died.
