WHAT HAPPENED:
Early in the morning, in the year 1790, an incident occurred near
Alençon, France which was eerily similar to many modern
UFO reports.
Farmers in the area reported seeing a huge globe that flew over their heads with a whistling sound, like it was traveling at high speed. It decelerated and settled on a nearby hilltop, but was so hot that the trees and grass around it began to burn.
By evening, as the area residents finally managed to get the fire under control, a door opened, a humanoid appeared, said a few words, which no one understood, and then fled into the woods. Soon after that, the globe exploded.
No trace of the humanoid has ever been found.

WHAT HAPPENED:
Renee Hartwelt, disappeared on this day in 1981.
The next day, witnesses saw an Asian man dumping two large suitcases and called the police. Inside the suitcases they found the remains of a woman, with some parts missing.
A few days later the suitcase was traced to a thirty-three year-old Japanese named Issei Sagawa. The police searched his flat and found the dead girl's lips, her left breast and both buttocks in this refrigerator.
Eventually Sagawa confessed and was found incompetent to stand trial.
He was pronounced "cured" and released in September 1985. Soon after, he wrote a book, In the Fog, about his crime.
