I had to make sure.
I herded Pee Wee over to the TV
stand where Darryl was mixing cocktails
for everyone.
“Ok guys, what the hell’s going on
here? Why’s everyone so nonchalant
about the Cat? We may have a problem
getting her out, especially if that
guard’s there.”
Darryl and Pee Wee looked at each
other.
“Well, to be honest Crim,” Darryl
answered slowly, “it's not that we
don't believe you.”
Pee Wee added, “We want to believe
you, buddy. We really do, but you have
to admit. A talking Cat is just plain
impossible.”
Darryl jumped in again, “It's just
a tad bit hard to swallow, and now it
* looks like we might not even get to see
the talking Cat after all.”
     “We all figured this would
happen,” Pee Wee added, “because this
was all just a ruse to get us all to-
gether, so you could formally propose
to Beth. That's way more believable
than a talking Cat.”
“You have to admit Crim, if you
were us, would you believe you?” Darryl
finished for Pee Wee.
     They looked at me, obviously
waiting for me to tell them that yes,
they were right, it was all a ruse, but
I just shook my head and pulled out the
four debit cards.
“I admit nothing, but I do agree,
that I wouldn’t believe it either, and
I’ve seen her,” I said, and then
started handing out the cards.
