He laughed, “Ok, I’ll take all the
blame.”
“Ok then, let’s go.” I got up, and
we both walked over to the door that
opened into the Prosecutor’s outer of-
fice, where his secretary worked, the
one who called to invite me in.
Johnson held me back, “Hold it.
Let me go in first.”
He then waved to a guy who was
holding this huge German Shepard back.
The guy followed Johnson in and
had to literally drag that big-ass dog
into the office with him. It viciously
snarled and snapped at me, like it
wanted a piece of me right this fucking
minute. Not later, but right the fuck
now.
What the hell was I getting myself
into, I thought? This did not look good
* at all.
     I called Beth.
She answered on the second ring
and wanted to know what happened. I
quickly told her about Johnson, the two
guys, and the vicious looking big-ass
German Shepard.
     After swearing about the bag-
throwing guy, she laughed a little, “I
know what he’s doing. Don’t worry.
You’ll survive.”
“That’s easy for you to say. How’s
your emergency?”
“Really bad. A kitten almost got
one of his hind legs crushed under a
car when the Dad backed out. The family
is devastated, especially the little
girl. She can’t stop crying, and the
Dad... he’s just out of it.”
     “Oh my God! You’re kidding?”
